Have you ever wanted to know how much Co2 is being emitted because of your tweets then head over to this page and enter your user name and hit enter and it will show you how much Co2 is being emitted because of your tweets..A funny calculation..Happy.

This app made by Thorsten Zoerner or in twitter(@zoernert) is a cool and funny app,Here is what he says ,

Why this calculation?

Please see that calculation as fun. It should provide you a sense that all what we are doing is causing CO2 - and there are million ways to do something against. Just ask via Twitter #savetheearth #startthinking.

Taken from the sidebar of the app blog

The twitter app calculations is :

Every tweet will be read by [no] followers - requiring around 2 seconds each. You need around 30 seconds to write one tweet - you post one every [average time] hours (calculated out of your last 20 tweets) or [no] posts per year. Requiring around [time] hours a computer turned on. A standard computer consumes around 250W per hour. 1 KWh causes an average of 0.59kg CO2 - or 1.14 pounds Making for the user [name]: emission in kg / emission in lbs of CO2 yearly for twittering!

My calculation is:

Every tweet will be read by 90 followers - requiring around 2 seconds each. You need around 30 seconds to write one tweet - you post one every 19.64 hours (calculated out of your last 20 tweets) or 446 posts per year. Requiring around 1561 hours a computer turned on. A standard computer consumes around 250W per hour. 1 KWh causes an average of 0.59kg CO2 - or 1.14 pounds Making for the user achute: 230kg / 508lbs of CO2 yearly for twittering!

As on - January 09 2009 .

Now my tweets might be emitting higher co2 so you can check it here

Tip :

Since only user name is required for checking the co2 emission you can check co2 emission on any user in twitter ;-).
